Wood carver Steve Hunter and Northern Prairie Arts invites all graduates of Wood Carving 101 to enhance their skills by enrolling in the next step: Intermediate Wood Carving!
This class project will feature carving human faces/wood spirits. Steve will teach rules and techniques of the proportions of the face. This would be a three-session class, each session lasting two hours.
Prerequisites include completion of the beginner-level class (or prior carving experience—see below), a sharp knife, a cut-resistant glove, a thumb guard, and the desire to have fun and make cool stuff. Undeniably a great value and a great time!
Option 1 — Expand Your Toolkit
Intermediate Wood Carving: Expanding Your Toolkit
$150 for members, $165 for non-members (Become a member at northernprairiearts.org/memberships)
Continue building your carving skills while learning to use two additional carving tools, in addition to the tools you learned to use in the previous class. Also included are the necessary wood for the project, a study stick, and other reference materials to enhance the course.
Option 2 — Build on Your Skills
Intermediate Wood Carving: Continue with Your Original Tool
$110 for members, $125 for non-members (Become a member at northernprairiearts.org/memberships)
Continue developing your carving skills using the carving tool you learned with in the previous class; no additional tools are provided. Included are the necessary wood for the project, a study stick, and other reference materials to enhance the course.
The second option would be intended for those that may have already added some tools to their carving kits, or if there are students that want to tackle the project with just a knife. If you decided you'd like to try the new tools, the two additional tools will be available for purchase during the course for $20 each.
Session dates are Mondays--Sept. 14, 21, and 28. Location is the Codington County Heritage Museum basement. Class size is limited! As of now, registration is open only to graduates of Wood Carving 101, but if the class is not filled by Sept. 1, people with previous wood carving experience will be admitted.

You've seen them around on houses, fences, garages and yes, even barns. The Barn Quilt Class is BACK! NEW for October are the BQ Ladders which hold 4 small barn quilts - there will be a limit of 5 available for this class so register EARLY.
The hands-on workshop will be held Saturday, Oct. 10th, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Participants will create their own colorful barn quilt while choosing from more than 200 unique designs in four size options, ranging from a 1' × 1' square to the “Big Kahuna” 4' × 4' statement piece. PLUS - NEW for this class - you can choose from the Barn Quilt Ladder.
The BQ Ladder comes with either one or two-sided Barn Quilts to add a lot of variety to your Barn Quilt Displays! In the BQ Ladder 'kit' you'll get the Ladder (ready to stain or paint as you desire) and four 1x1' ready to paint BQ panels. If you have painted 1 x 1 panels that you would like incorporate into a ladder, that can be worked out with Tammy. Please contact her. For this session, there are no substitutions to the design options and no color variations.
Tammy prepares the boards in advance, carefully drawing the selected designs so participants can focus on the fun part—painting. Even those with little or no painting experience will feel confident thanks to Tammy’s step-by-step instruction and detail-oriented guidance.
Registration includes all materials and supplies, along with lunch & snacks to keep participants energized throughout the creative day.
Space is limited and the class has filled quickly in the past. Registration closes September 11.

After you've registered, Tammy will contact you to confirm your design choice and discuss any slight variations in the color scheme. Ie. You'd like the green & gold to be 'true John Deere' colors.
